Just a note to let you know I'm now puting together the 57 Westerner partial project build photos page together now. It should be finished by the end of the weekend. This is an example of the kind of photos that will be shown.

Sweet! Thanks Larry. I'll be watching for the pics to show later this weekend. Love the pictorials of your builds.

As another Westerner owner, nice to see how they were constructed, what to expect behind the skin, and the restoration procedures. Good job Mobil.

I like the wide board for the curbing instead of plywood I am hoping I can do that on mine.

Enjoyed looking at your build pictures. Came across your videos a few years ago and thought restoring a vintage trailer would be a fun project to keep be busy when I retire. Next came the hard part finding one. After two years of looking I was about to give up and just build a replica. Said to the wife I was about ready to go buy some steel for a frame when she jumps on her I-phone and finds a Scotty for sale couple towns over. Go look at it, real piece of junk. Fame is good, all these original parts and your videos come to mind. Larry showed me how to restore that. I have a gold mine in parts here just need to make chicken poop into chicken soup, done that before. Having a great time with my rebuild.
Thanks for your inspiration and shared knowledge. gomesie

Hi Larry,
How did you seal up the license plate light fixture against the skin? I don't think that was the original type that came with the Westerner. I don't have one on mine, but the hole is there. I bought a similar style, but probably older on ebay a while back and I would like to use it, as I like the style. My fixture has a torpedo like shape out the back that the wires come out of.
Thanks
Rod

If you are using a different plate holder and there will be holes exposed you can glue some scrap aluminum to the back side of the skin over the old holes and then use either bondo or JB Weld to fill in the old holes with. Then use putty tape behind the new plate holder just like with all through fittings to seal everything up. Of course you have to remove the metal skin to get to the back side.
In this case this was the original plate holder as far as I can tell because there were no other holes behind the plate.
Hope that helps...
