Hi, My mom's 80th birthday is coming up in 10 days and I am considering pulling my trailer up to my parents as part of a surprise entrance. I have already opened up the rear skin as seen below. Can I tow Andy - my Westerner 720 RT miles assuming there is no rain forcast. Any structural concerns since the aluminum has been taken off? thanks Rod

I'd be more concerned about the rot. But if the wind gets up under the skin, it's a goner. My advice would be no, do not tow it like that. But you CAN do it, might not turn out so good.

ABSOLUTELY structural concerns opened up. The framing alone, rotted or not, is not what gives the strength to these trailers. It is a combination of the framing, the layers, and the integrity of the frame, that keeps the shape from "blowing up" when it is together and meets with the bumps and bruises of the road. You could tow it, but it is liable to be a lot shorter and a lit lighter when you arrive!

What did they used to say about opening windows in a hurricane?

I wouldn't tow that more than 20 feet even if it DID have the metal on it. It's going to be a great trailer but let's not see it all blown up on the road.

That trailer "should be" sitting "leveled" on four to six jack stands, and NOT moved at all until it's buttoned back up.

Well, due to the overwhelming replies encouraging me to put Andy on the road,
I have decided to go for it.

Just paint the interior back wall and add some curtains and cute pillows....then that thing will be able to be camped in today and towed anywhere in the US. OH!...and dont forget to add a little silicone to "stop" ALL the leaks.
I think you're golden....
