I think SusieQ did some inlay in her floor... Someone here did. Custom cutting of VCT is easy using a heat gun and a razor knife. We did an inlay on Hamlet's floor, just by the entry. The floor is dark red/off white Marmoleum tiles that are just shy of 13" each. We didn't cut them down and it looks great, even in the Compact. We did a heart to match the grain on the birch. We used an Exacto knife to cut. VCT is much stiffer, thicker and heavier than linoleum and a saw would have probably shredded it.
