I think I've decided on doing the VCT tiles and am headed to Lowes this afternoon. Has anyone done inlaid style patterns? If so, how difficult is it and any advice?

This is the floor pattern I am thinking of doing. Lots of cuts, and 4 colours, but the end result is very vintage cool! I think they probably cut 2 diamonds out of each 12" square.

I think SusieQ did some inlay in her floor... Someone here did. Custom cutting of VCT is easy using a heat gun and a razor knife.

I did an inlay but I did not do a whole floor pattern. I'll check and see if I have a pic. I used a cookie cutter. I actually busted the one I wanted to use and sadly ended up with something different from my original intentions.

I like that diamond pattern! Can't wait to see what you come up with! I'm thinking something geometric myself since I'm not a professional at laying floors. Don't want to get too crazy, throw up my hands, than scrap the whole thing. LOL

I use Armstrong Excelon tiles exclusively and offer free videos on how to install it. Just remember to READ the instructions on the glue. You need to let it dry until it is clear before you start to put the tile down. It's also a really good idea to draw a layout for your tiles on the floor in pencil. It will show through once the glue dries and this way you can center your tiles to fit your particular needs. This process is really not that hard if you know the tricks of the trade. My first time came out perfect and only took less than a day for a complete trailer floor. My trip to Lowes ended up being a big waste of time. I knew they would only have a few samples to look at, but I was hoping to take away at least a brochure! So? Are the colors pretty true to what is on their website? I'm thinking about contacting Armstrong directly to see if they will be of better help.

I would say yes about the color samples but your own monitor colors on your computer could display them differently. I almost warned you about Lowe's selection but, if you have more than one Lowe's, you may find they have different stuff. Ours does. If you search by store, you can tell. The ones sold in singles are in the store and the ones in bundles have to be ordered. That's the problem with doing a really colorful floor, you have to buy cartons of each color.

You can get samples of any of the tiles on their website. I ordered 6x6 tiles. It wants you to put in your "job" (like as if you're a contractor) and I just put home remodel and then set up an account. When setting up the account, they want to know the "company" name and I put "Residence" and then they want to know your title and I put "homeowner". They sent the samples via FedEx at no charge. I went back and placed two more orders with no problem.

I wonder what they'd say if you called and asked to buy a case of 6x6 samples?

The table saw is the way to go for cutting vinyl floor tile. I got my tile from Home Depot. A couple helpful hints: keep the tile in the house for a few days and make sure it's nice and warm. And make yourself a "zero clearance throat plate" for the saw out of 1/4" plywood. It's a blank plate that you install with the blade fully retracted, then turn on the saw, and holding the plate down with a piece of scrap wood, carefully raise the blade up through it. This makes the slot no bigger than the blade, and it helps keep the tile from chipping when you cut it. Use a fresh carbide blade, at least 40 tooth. Here is where my floor photos start.

I'm surprised the tile wasn't chipped at all. The throat plate was a smart idea. On a side note, I can't believe you fit the camper in that garage door opening. Talk about cutting it close.

Still deciding on colors but going to start prepping the floor. So far Home Depot has a better selection of luan underlayment. Totally disappointed cuz I'm a Lowe's kinda girl! So far HD has been better for everything lately. :/
