FINALLY, Lucille is completed enough to get her back out on the road!! We are going on a month-long trip, heading East from Colorado, planning to hit the beaches in NC, Maryland and Virginia. Any suggestions for places to camp between here and there, and places to hike with our dog, would be greatly appreciated! Thinking we will be driving through KS, MO, TN, NC then north to NYC area where our daughter lives.
And if anyone along the route would like to get together, drop me a pm and let's see if it works out. I'd love to meet members of our little community in person and see your trailers!
AND, if anyone has suggestions/tips/ideas on camping in trailers with a dog, please tell me. This will be our first time, as I got both the puppy (chocolate lab) and Lucille almost a year ago and I've never trailer camped with a dog. Done lots of backpacking with our previous dog, but never trailer camping. My biggest concern is finding camping places near hiking trails that allow dogs (on or off leash).
Thanks! Can't tell you how good it feels to be asking for advice about an actual TRIP rather than REPAIRS!! Yippee!

Come hike Shenandoah NP in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lots of dog friendly trails. Hitting the beach in VA? First Landing State Park is the place to be. And dog friendly. I take mine there. The park is on the bay but not far from the VA Beach touristy part. There are trails and you camp in the dunes or not. One of my favorite outings. www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/first-landing.shtml#general_informationEdit: If you're going TN NC to NYC, then you'll miss Shenandoah NP But you can still catch VA Beach. Stop by the Outerbanks in NC. Check out Ocracoake or Frisco campgrounds in Cape Hatteras NP www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.htmTake a good book to read across KS when you're not the one driving, of course.

Oh, I just looked at pictures of First Landing on Google. I cannot wait! I love Colorado and have lived here for 34 years, but I do miss the ocean! Thanks for the tips, SusieQ.

I would suggest a short week long outing with the dog, before taking on cross country if possible. This would give you a chance to get comfortable with it and see what you need. It's the little things that can spoil a trip quickly
As for coming through tn, I would avoid gatlinburg/ pigeon forge, it's the same things as the beaches. The cumberland plateau coming across i40 has lots to see and do, especially waterfalls and such. Check out fall creek falls, there is also a campground called deer run Rv resort in crossville, tn. I'm hoping to check it out in a couple weeks. They even put on 2 vintage trailer rallies a year

But I'm confident we'll get it all worked out. It's not like we're heading into the wilderness - there will be plenty of stores to get what we need if necessary!
