Wondering if anyone has added the bunk bed to a Compact? Do I need to add any extra support for the rails? Would I need to take the skin off to secure the rails? Does anyone have the dimensions for this? Any help or thoughts on this would be great. Even if no one slept up there I was thinking the extra storage space might be nice. This is what I have now, just the tiny shelf.

If you don't already have the parts ask around to see if someone else wants theirs anymore. Some people remove them and just put a shelf there.
The back rail for the bunk is already in your compact. It's the rail above the back window from side to side. The bunk base would be the same thickness attached to the top of that rail wit a piano hinge going all the way across. There should already be some screw holes on top showing where it used to be.
There should be aluminum rails on each side above the windows and curtain rod hangers. Again there should be screw holes in the walls where they once were to show positioning. The bunk would also have another piano hinge in the center so it can fold up or down. They are usually 2 pieces in compacts. There will not be any screw holes in top of rail or above windows on side walls if it never had a bunk.
Here are a few pics of bunks I have on hand. They are in a compact and a lowflyte. Pretty much the same set up as yours should be. Someone else will have to provide measurements due to me not having these trailers here on site any more.
Good Luck, Soup

Thanks for the info and pics. I don't think mine ever had the bunk, no screw holes seen. The angle brackets above the side windows look to be about 1 or 1.5 inches wide, is this correct? And folded down, does the bunk extend to the end of the side windows, where the side rails end or go beyond?

Soup, I like your SUNROOF option. Very "airy"!

Nice job, Soup, on re-defining the amenities that Shasta always tried to provide! @ Lance... this is a photo from my 1969 model Compact. It shows the bunk in the upright position.... I do not own it now, so I can't give you a list of the exact dimensions of the panels and all. But there are more photos of it both in the up and down positions...I may be able to scrape up the dimensions in a real pinch. I also believe I have a set of the support rails...I would have to check.

Ten, Did you use the bunk much when you had it? Will it support an adult sleeping on it or is it just for 40 pound kids? Ha. Thanks for the info.

Here's a pic I found in an ad. Hope it helps. I'm not sure of the load capacity of these bunks, but the canvas ones in the earlier models is around 125. These bunks were intended for children.
