Hi there We just purchased this little gem. Can't find a VIN number as the metal is rusted over on the rails. Registration says it's a '68..it's not. Any ideas? i62.tinypic.com/2d95o2w.jpg

not a 68, they went to the square compact body shape in 65, I think the years for that body style of compact was 61-64.

Try and find the metal plate on the inside of the curbside frame rail, just behind the horizontal plates. About 2" long and 1/2" wide. Cleaning that off with a wire brush in a drill should reveal the VIN #. Then Ross can pinpoint the year.

Congrats! The other place you can see where it was built is that little tag to the left of the door. Beautiful little trailer, can we see more pictures?? Compacts were first manufactured in the last few months of 1959 for the 1960 model year. There are those of us who were told ours were '59s, but mostly because the PO really didn't know, and didn't have a way to find out. I suspect ours is really a 60 or 61, but it doesn't really matter anymore. Hamlet's ours, and that's all that matters!

It should be 2 letters, either ES or FS. This is based on the production time span of 1958-1964 and the numbers of the vin. This Compact was probably born in Northridge, California.
Just my 2 cents, until the actual prefix letter or letters are known.
Hope this helps.

So turn out there is nothing before the numbers. Looked real good but the numbers go all the way up to the weld point. i59.tinypic.com/ynsyr.jpgI did find a plate in the rear that says this coach has been approved ..... has a serial number M-66

What does the Manufacturing Plant Badge say it was produced? It is the small green metal tag by the door.

Northridge, CA I did find another serial on the side of the curbside rail.
it is real hard to make out. ES2029-5PA1722 or? ES2029-5BA1722
but it is real rough guess.
