Flintlock Campground Boone NC. Trip Report and Camp site review; First of all, if you have not been able to visit the Scottish Highland games at Grandfather Mountain in NC., please drop by if ever you get a chance. They have these assemblies in other states as well but this is one of the largest, fariest and happiest of them all. If you can camp on the grounds with the many represented Clans, I say dive in. But space goes quick and it’s almost a “who ya know gig”.. WOW! A Festive and very welcoming bunch of folks they are. And while my heritage Clan was not represented the Clan of the Bahama Mama makes everyone feel a part of their tribe.. but that is another story.

“Flintlock” Campground is right off of Hwy 105 leaving the town of Boone NC. This town is home of the Appalachian State University and lots of art and music.. Snow skiing is close by if they have a good winter for it, but the main attraction to this area is the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountain vacations.
This was my first visit to a “Classic Road Side RV Park”. My wife and I pull this trip out of the air and were way to late to make reservation to the other many Campgrounds in the area both public and private. We had stayed at Grandfather Campground (http://www.grandfatherrv.com) the 2nd year we had our camper and liked it so-so but the bath houses there were really grungy.. Flintlock had better bathrooms for sure but that was about it.
These campsites were really small and being late bookers we got a very challenging sight. I was so glad that we got there early Friday and got set up because when we return from the games Friday night it had become a parking lot. We had good neighbor though and getting up close with all of them was no problem. We were gone most of the time so it wasn’t like real camping.. So if you in a pinch, stay here, it’s clean pretty cheap at $22 a night, 30 amp and water. We were right beside a nice big creek. They have bunkhouse cabins.. There right in front of ya, and a nice old spot with a few junked out trailer too. On our scale 1 to 5, identifying the simple, secret, nice camping places still around.. I have to take out the “secret and nice” and go with a 2+ for simple, a 3 for it's low cost, but a solid 5 for someone living out their dream of owning a campground. They have nice grounds, play stuff for the kids and really good bath houses. Hot water!
This is JACKED UP! I thought I was going to run out of blocks and planks.. I parked close at night in fear of a roll off (I gotta get those breaks fixed)

Wondering the storage yard.. The guy said he pulled it out every now and then for the owners when they drive up. I don't see it. Some serious sagg in the front.
