For my 65 Shasta Compact Resurrection I decided to completely rewire the trailer. I ran all the wiring for the brake and running lights inside the trailer so that in an emergency all the connections and wire are accessible . Where the wire went through to the outside wall I installed cover plates . They are behind the settee cushions so are not seen. The brake lights are New LED bus style turn/tail/stop that are about the size of the original birthday cake lights. The side marker lights are new repop with standard bulbs. If they give me any trouble I will probably modify them to take LED bulbs. I wired everything to a 4 wire flat plug that connects to the plug on my truck. I did not want to charge the battery from the truck and I don't have trailer brakes so I didn't need to go to the 7 wire round plug.
I also installed AC through the existing outside socket to the original circuit breaker relocated under the settee and then to two outlets , one in the settee base and one next to the door in the wall next to the stove. For the AC wiring I used heavy duty rubber insulated 14 ga. extension cord that I used to use to power my skill saw on the construction sites. it is stranded wire and very tough.
For the interior 12 volt wiring I used 14 ga. primary wire that I purchased online that is better quality than the home depot brand. It is sold in auto parts stores but in short lengths. I bought 50 ft and 100 ft spools .
lights include (2) swivel reading lights, (1) dome light over the table, and halogen light( I already had) for the galley.
For a battery I bought an interstate 30 amp AGM battery like you find in mobility scooters. In addition to being 1/2 the size of a standard 12 v battery AGM batteries have a very slow discharge rate so can be left unattended for a few months without self discharging.
They can also be mounted in any position including upside down and give off no hydrogen gas. They have a very good cycle life and need no maintenance.
To complete the system I purchased a 40 watt solar panel locally in Campbell Ca. for about $70. that came with a small charge controller. To that I added a digital volt meter and a main shut off switch that disconnects the battery from everything when switched off. I also added a marine fuse panel with 6 fused switches so each of the lights can be switched off individually at the panel.
Lastly I installed a 12v lighter socket style receptacle which can be used as a power point when I am using the portable video player. It can accept a plug in USB adaptor so you can charge cell phones or anything else that uses a usb port. With this system I can run the overhead dome light for days on one battery charge and should be able to go just about anywhere the son shines and have power for as long as I need it.

I bought my battery in store from the local Interstate battery dealer. This is a similar battery for about the same price. Make sure you get an AGM battery not a valve regulated battery as the AGM is a better battery.
