This has the look of doom written all over it. I suggested that the trailer may be too rotten to continue on without putting it on a flat bed. What do you all think of this email I got today?

Splits from hail, or splits from the frame coming apart..? Thats the big question!

Splits from hail, or splits from the frame coming apart..? Thats the big question! I informed her of the worst case possibility such as the trailer falling apart while on the road which could be a disaster. I told her I couldn't tell anything at all without being there and that a professional should inspect it before they move on or put it on a flat bed.

If the splits are from the hail get out the duct tape or clear mailing tape works well also, if from the structure is falling apart start praying then build a super structure support inside, then lash rope or straps around the exterior to hold it to the frame, then pay to haul it home or a repair shop.

I can't imagine hail causing splits! My roof has 1000's of hail dents and it's still intact. There had to be some kind of other strain on the metal. The wind factor might have more to do with it. Would be interesting to see. And keep us posted on the outcome.

Hmmm. I'm confused. The "build" itself looks OK, what the pictures show, anyway. Metal splits are caused by the body moving going down the road. The only thing I can think of it that the body bolts are not secure to the frame. Altho both of my Land Commanders were made like tanks... Pictures of the damage would really help. Worst case scenario:

We still need to see the splits. Very LARGE hail while traveling at 50 mph could split the skin where the hail hit. Main question is this; Are the splits from the hail stones or are they splits where the skin seams meet? Aluminum 3M tape is very water and weather resistant. I use it as a base to stick plastic curtain on top of with blue masking tape for when I have windows or walls out of a camper when working on them in the driveway. I have had that tape on exterior in weather up to 10 months including winter with no leaking around the tape. I also use it on holes in skin from the inside for sealing then use a bondo like filler on the outside of the taped hole for repairs. The tape is used to seal the hole so not as much bondo is needed. It's the same 3M aluminum cold weather tape I use for sealing insulation inside walls for vapor barrier. Any pics yet Larry?
Hey Vikx, the pic above looks to have fire damage around front side window. I see it's on the side of the street. Was this from fire damage, accident, sway gone terribly wrong or body from frame separation?

If the thing is coming apart I think it should be on a flat bed.

I don't know about hail damage in your part of the world but we had a hail storm that cut slits in cars and trucks. my nephews chevy pick up was totaled it had holes in the cab roof, holes in the fiberglass bed cover, and broke the windows out. Many homes had hail comes through the roof and knock the dry wall off the ceiling and it cut major holes in the side s of many RV started with a dent then cuts on down. So I am now convinced that hail can do anything.

The trailer came off the frame going down the freeway. It was overloaded with pink stuff, owner was driving quite fast (according to witnesses) and started to sway. The worst happened, as the sway cause the body to separate and plop onto the road... This is a trailer that had not been properly repaired, had some sag over the tongue... Here's another view: The cops wanted to fine the person $1500 for an improperly tied load... but lowered it to $850 when they discovered it really had been a trailer...

We had baseball size hail one time back home. It was the closest thing to snow my then six year old had ever seen in the Deep South. She put "snowballs" in the freezer.
That pink stuff is really scary. The thought of splattering all over the road and the consequences are really frightening.
