I'm a bit of an organizing nut- when I have time and the drive- I'm really good at it---but anticipating "moving in" to my first trailer is starting to confuse me...I see places for things in the kitchen, I can do a tool box, the dinette seats can store the H2O tank, first aid kit, bigger tools, flashlights and other pertinent stuff, the rear, under bed cargo area-eeewe, its dirty in there-can store awnings, out door rug, jacks, levelers etc...BUT! how to divvy up the remaining storage space is becoming worrysome-
I have 4 problems at this point that I need advice about:
1.) how wrong is it to add racks and accessories that require screw holes/nail holes/marring the cabinetry and if I install towel racks, a paper towel dispenser, spice rack...will I have to leave it in the trailer when I sell because of the damage or if I remove it will the damage frighten future buyers?
2.) I'm really nervous about things rattling around and breaking or coming out of drawers, cupboards and closets...I am starting to understand why people opt for the retro plastic or melamine dinnerware vs regular dishes...does anyone add in little divisions inside their cupboards, closets and stuff. things that hamper movement-rails or bungees...how intensely do you prepare your stored items for transport? I'd love to see some pictures. If I put stuff like that into the cupboards- does it hurt potential resale?
3.)where do you all put your clothes for a trip? I really was hoping not to live out of a duffel and have to store them on the back couch/mattress to look sloppy...but I really don't see the closet space for putting them out of sight. My husband has lots of weird stuff he likes to bring on trips so I am hoping there is some solution to keeping the clutter and mess of clothing to a minimum without having to clog up the inside of the truck too. Would adding an era-appropriate looking deeper shelf above the bed or adding a bunk hurt my trailers value?
4.) is there anywhere except putting on a continental kit type thing-that I can store my spare tire safely? right now its on the floor inside. it won't fit in the cargo area...pretty sure storing it under the trailer isn't standard-like under dinette area from a spare mount kit like a lot of trucks have...I think this trailer rides too low for that to be advisable...
I really wasn't thinking storage when I went to the last trailer meetup- besides, how do you say- "can you please let me poke around and look inside all your compartments and invade your privacy?" to a complete stranger? I know vintage trailer people are friendly-but it seemed overly invasive to ask then.
We have a 59 shasta airflyte (pretty sure-we just got it-its 15 feet long and looks like the other airflytes I've seen) and the storage space seems small already...
has anyone raised the mattress a bit to add storage space or retrofitted a drawer to the lift down door on that lower panel area?
can anyone help with suggestions and pictures?
