We had a 55 van-ette but had to sell march 2013... not enough seatbelts for the 4 of us. had ought the forester 16' in teh previous fall and had it delivered via car trailer.
seems solid.
towed it for very first time ever 2 days ago... with my custom 50 chevy truck. PITA cant get enough tongue wieght and wag dog and can only manage about 55 before wobble. has brakes(thank goodness) but I did a length ratio and its got 6' behind axle and 10' to the ball. my car hauler has 6' behind tandem centerline and 14' to the ball...
thinking of making tongue longer(professional welder-no worries there)
gonna start another new thread asking for dimensions.
anyway.. here in nor-cal...just visited teh woodson bridge april ralley...

Check your tires and air pressure. Passenger car tires are nasty for causing sway, as is low pressure. Weight distribution also makes a difference. (things loaded in the trailer, water tanks, etc.)
One thing that has helped a lot of friends is a simple sway control bar. Not load levelers, just the sway bar. Great improvement.

The only thing you will gain by making the longer is making it easier to back plus the weight of the added steel, I would follow vixk's advice above. A factory built trailer towed OK new so something as been changed to cause the problem. Check your tongue weight, then start reloading trailer to get 10% of loaded weight on the tongue. Another thought is are you towing it level sometimes towing tongue high causes problems.
