Saw it on Craigslist a month ago. Drove 3 1/2 hours (with cash in hand) to look at it. Severe irrational attraction caused me to hand over the cash. Two weeks and 50 e-mails later I had paperwork which would allow me to register it. (different state). It is a cabover model. Went to pick it up, jacked it up to check wheel bearings and found a break where leaf springs attach to frame. Lucky to find local welder who fixed it for $125. Towed home 150 miles @ 40 MPH, then 50MPH, then 60MPH....no problem!
Good news is that the axle, wheels, tires and awning are new. Norcold 3 way fridge, original stove, Humphrey gas lamps all work. Has roof A/C that needs more support. Pulled lower skins to inspect and everything looks good. There is obvious damage to interior paneling, ceiling, and roof supports which I am sure I can repair.
Bad news is that I have spent 2 days trying to remove three different kinds of "Goop" on roof and trim. Unbelievable combination of what looks like "Gluvit" and "Snow" and some kind of aluminum coating. Coats of it! Worst of all someone put screws through the roof from the outside into the rafters spaced about every 8 inches. Eternabond looks to be my salvation. (Tip...aluminum goop melts and smears at high RPM with wire wheel. Slow RPMS allow it to be removed vs, smeared.) If it does smear, good old fashioned turpentine cleans it up.
I can't believe it, but I am actually happy about this. I think when it is weather proofed and interior redone, we'll have something "out of the box" that will probably outlive me! I will try to post pics soon.
By the way, this site has proven to be invaluable....Thanks to all of you.
