Hello all,
I am new to this board, and have been researching vintage and new trailers for a while. Right now I am just trying to get as much info as possible. We are getting our house ready for a sale and are either moving about 10 miles or 1250 miles so I wont be buying anything for a little while.
This forum seems like a great place to learn. My Wife and I have been tent camping for many years, and finally decided that we would like to get a trailer for more comfort. We both have fallen in love with vintage trailers, but need something light that can sleep 4. M The vehicle that we have has a towing capacity of 2000#s unbraked and a max tongue weight of 200#s. It is a Mazda CX-5 which I love by the way. I would prefer a trailer without a bathroom, but with a stove, furnace and fridge.
I would like to find something in the next year to year in a half. We live in Colorado right now, but may be moving to the north west. We would probably be looking to spend in the neighborhood of $5000. Do you think this is even possible in todays market?
Any comments or suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance from a noob that knows little.

Welcome Ironbrewer.
It is possible to find a decent trailer for 5K, but they are usually newer, late 60s into the 70s. For a 50s canned ham with a proven rebuild, the cost is more likely to be $8500 to start.
That being said, it will be difficult to find a trailer that meets your vehicle's tow capacity. Safe towing isn't all weight, but braking ability, handling (higher than a popup with wind resistance), and all the "stuff" loaded in the trailer and vehicle. Horsepower factors in, as does a tow package which includes a transmission cooler. (automatic) I would think trailer brakes are mandatory with your rig.
You might consider a Casita, Scamp or Egg trailer. They have tongue weights under 200 lbs. There are quite a few vintage "eggs" out there. With brakes, a smaller vintage trailer is do-able.
You will learn a lot here. We're very anxious to share opinions. LOL.
