Hello all, I just picked up two older trailers (free) and started getting interested in restoring them. At first my thought was to tear them down to the frame and then build small teardrop-styles on them, but now I'm liking the bigger space One of them I'm pretty convinced is a '57 Deville (vin starts with DV57xxx, and videos/pics on web seem right). The other one I have no idea... VIN is on the pass side tongue rail, and starts with 58... It has a very cool 'wave' -type paint scheme, which I have not been able to find on the web. It's pretty trashed, so I'm tearing it all down, trying to save anything possibly worth reusing. The Deville (if that's what it is) is trashed also, but intact including the oven/stove, sink, and icebox. Figured I'd 'learn' on the really bad one before taking on the Deville. Anyways, glad I found this forum, and I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions BTW, I'm in CA Tom

Hi Tom, Welcome to the forum. Lots of help and FREE advise here. Be sure to watch the videos on rebuilding made by Mobiltec. Be careful though, everyone on this site has an incurable affliction! Where are you located in California?

Oh yeah, and I HAVE been watching TONS of mobiltec's vids - they're AWESOME!
Btw, the first part of the unknown trailer's vin is 15 55 ... Mean anything?

If you live in California you better talk to mobiltech before you start unless you have the titles in hand. He has experienced some major problems and had to junk one trailer due to it being listed as scraped.

Wow these things come down quick! Note the teardrop-shaped wheel wells ... NOW does anyone have any ideas? LOL
So.... I do live in California, and did not get a title with either of these. The Deville does have a license plate (old black one), and the last sticker is from 1975...
The one in the pics has no license plate, and part of the vin was ground off at some point when they put a new tongue on. Am I screwed?? If I can't get it registered, what are my options?

Anyone have experience with registering a "home built" trailer? I've taken the mystery camper down to the frame, and it won't look anything like the original when I'm done... If anyone is interested, here's what the frame looks like - surprised to find electric brakes on it!
