When I came across my compact, the rear window was my big headache. It came complete with plexiglass, silicone and the old butyl tape. It was missing the aluminum glazing bar. After a long search of many different glazing bars, i decided to try the Plastic Hallmark 12 Glazing Strip. When it arrived, i realized it was too small to use with 1/8" glass. The total area on my width i needed to fill with glass and glazing was 3/4". The glazing bar only took care of 3/8" of this. I cut down a piece of 3/8 plywood and it worked pretty much perfect with it. I decided I wanted to go with a tempered glass in this window and called a glass shop 40 miles away. They quoted 98$ plus tax for a piece of 3/8 clear tempered. I went online and found One Day Glass . I was able to get a 3/8" 35-1/2" x 14-1/2" clear tempered for $71 total shipped to my door. It arrived in about 8 days from Washington state to Tennessee, in great condition.
I used VTS-137 Glazing tape to bed the glass to the frame. Using a tip from Vikx, I sprayed the tape with Windex before placing the glass in place. Once the glass was in place, I cut the plastic glazing bar with a utility knife. It needs to be warm but i was impatient and couldn't wait, so the corners aren't perfect. All in all, I am happy with the replacement as long as it dont fall out going down the road and most of all......doesn't leak! lol.
