Made a simple angle iron battery holder today ( well got it cut out). If any one is interested, on a 1969 shasta compact. This will sit behind twin LP tanks. I used 1" x 1/8" angle iron. Used two 4 foot sticks. For series 27 battery boxes, like the Atwood boxes. 32 inches long x 7 1/2 in wide holds two boxes perfectly wit about an inch between the boxes I'm going to put a 1 inch flat bar in the center to be able to secure the lids to the holder. I'll post pics as soon as I get it on.

Are you going to have it so that the batteries can be locked in place to resist theft?

For dual series 24 battery boxes , reduce the length to 27 " long x 7-1/2" wide

Just curious, does the top hold down bar connect on the outside down to the base frame? Looks like you could just bend the 1/4" bar up, or twist it around the bolt, and remove the batteries.
Using a piece of 1/8" by 1 1/2" angle would make the top much stiffer.
Another thought would be to reverse the hold down bolt, and run the excess threads out the bottom for a cleaner look. Just weld the "thread-all" bolt to your hold down bracket. The last propane hold down I made, used a 3/8" black pipe for the hold down and I welded a 1/2" grade 8 bolt inside the pipe for the threaded portion.

The bends in the bar make it hard to get leverage on to bend up and having the inside bracket keeps it from "twisting off". They are tight to the lids which keep the spin factor down.... Thought about taking the 1/4" to the base of the frame and putting a padlock place but decided this should be enought to at least make someone consider moving to the neighbors trailer

My mother worked for the NY Court system for 20 years. She once told me, "Thieves are lazy, that's how they became thieves." Your set up looks secure enough to keep all but the most determined thieves away. Although my Mom also said, "In parts of New York City they can have the wheels off your car at a stop light while you're waiting for it to change to green." So don't camp in NYC and you'll be fine.

I think that the "Deterrent" factors are being well met here. It looks secured and ready for the road too. Nothing is burglar proof. I am in agreement with "ya matta". NC' All you can do is slow them down and get'em to make some noise. A hefty set of bolts cutters or a torch can make short ones endeavors. I don't have good access to "counter sales" steel anymore, or the scrap bin either.. Bummer.. Looking good Pirate..

Pirate, you might consider bolting it to the frame. Sometimes these handy things can get in the way of screwing the skin at the bottom, things like that. It would be a pain to unbolt it, but this week I wish I could've...
