It just dawned on me while I was looking at this oven that there are no gas marks or temperature settings on the oven knob. Is cooking in this oven going to be trial-and-error? (Like a lot of my cooking so that shouldn't be a big switch) I googled this brand but can't find any info on actually cooking with one. How do other vintage oven users manage this?

My Holiday has no markings except OFF. I suppose I'll invest in an oven thermometer.

Yes, thanks-- this is like one that I have. Should be interesting to experiment!

I disabled our 56 Aljo Modernaire oven. It was either ON or OFF, and to light it, you'd better be ready with a lighter once the gas is on...
The reason I disabled it was because there was no insulation under the stove. It was sitting on blackened wood runners. Wonder why they were black? Anyway, the temp is controlled by the height of the flame, by turning the knob up or down.

Holy moley....guess we better look underneath. Would be disappointing to burn the whole dang camper down on our maiden voyage.

I'm thinking a square of cement board under the stove would help. I'm just all for safety with these old stoves...
We don't cook in our trailers, too much grease, fumes, etc. The same type of old household oven singed the heck out of our great aunt when she wasn't quick enough with the match.
