I tore out my ceiling in my 64 1500 yesterday and found that the ceiling is framed with 1 x 3 on the flat. Very wimpy! My plan is to cut a radius into 1" Baltic birch plywood 3/4" at the ends and 1-1/2" at the center to crown the roof at the center. This would only occurred roughly 2' in from the ends of the trailer. I would fasten 1 to each side of the rafters. This will be a very strong roof and will get rid of the puddles on the roof. Am I creating any unforeseen issues by doing this? I know I'll be adding about 50 lbs but that doesn't concern me. And the roof skin will take the upward pressure without a problem I've already tested it.

Wow made 3 of the rafters and it's going to work. So lucky to be a carpenter with lots of wood scraps because a sheet of this stuff costs $160. The taper is perfect. I'll post pics later.

I used a 3 inch crown on my latest project Shasta on all but the very front and rear I left them flat to keep to curvature correct where the roof wraps over to the end walls. I still have a small amount of slack in the Aluminum. My measure is from the bottom of the original framing. I discovered some of the originals were warped down a inch to an inch and a half in the center. I retained the originals and screwed the new ones to them, pulling the old up flush with the bottom of the new. Turned out very strong and no puddles. I think this will also stop a lot of the roof flexing at speed causing the entire roof system to last longer, 50 years will tell.

Thanks bill I'm doing the exact same thing but only a 1" crown instead of the 3/4" I posted it fits really well. What did you make yours out of? Mine are actually applply not Baltic birch. Same principle but all maple void free core. I made the first one and put the 2 ends on bricks and stood in the middle and only got 1/2" sag very strong.
