I couldn't find an area about things to take with you when looking at a trailer, so please move this post to where it belongs We have a leak in our ceiling and bought a moisture meter so we could narrow down the damp area and not tear out any more panels than necessary. The moisture meter worked great. If we ever look for another trailer, you bet I will take this with me! What we got was a set of 2 meters, the set was $35.00 at Costco. Here's a pic of the package:

This is great, thanks Callie. We could probably put this in tools... not sure.

Take the moisture meter with a grain of salt. The thing measure's relative moisture and that can change with the weather. I worked in flood damage repair and mold remediation for 7 years. Hated every minute of it but it paid pretty good. The sales guys used those things to scare the bejesus out of the customers and the insurance companies. They really won't do you much good in picking out a trailer to restore. Almost all 50 year old trailers have leaked unless they were sheltered their entire lives. I wouldn't waste the money on it and you may pass up a trailer you would have otherwise purchased.
Final word... The ice pick is the best tool you can carry with you. That and your eyes and nose.

I have to agree with mobile on this. Basically just a few lights that mean very little. All the lights will light up with very little moisture present poof a bunch of lights on there's gotta bie a big problem. Moisture is in everything around us and goes up and down constantly Own one and seldom use it

The wet ceiling area registered real high and the rest of the ceiling measured low so it actually helped narrow it down, but I agree in general you can't put too much faith in the reading. LOL my husband had been wanting the heat meter so this was his excuse to get the set:). It would be REAL useful looking at a trailer to buy; if it registered high it would make a great negotiating tactic
