I know this is a goop free zone; but was wandering, is the self leveling seler need on the vent or just the putty tape? I am a firm believer from roofing for many years, there is usually no need for sealer if done right, it's only a temporary fix at best. But I realize sometimes it is necessary. Thoughts?

stay away from silicone, there is a better alternative, but I forgot what it is called, someone will chime in shortly. use putty tape under it.

Dicor self leveling lap sealant is the sealant of choice. It is used for rubber roofs (non corrosive to EPDM) and sticks to itself for touch ups. Not fun to remove but possible. I've been using the included foam seal on the Fantastic Fans for several years with Dicor around the flange and screw heads. So far, not a leak.
That being said, I've seen 50 year old putty still holding on a roof vent. Believe that has to do with the weather. If you are in the desert, not a lot of freezing, but the sun will eat the putty alive. Likewise, a lot of freeze/thaw cycles will cause gaps and water seep. I use Dicor as insurance.
It is not "always" wrong to use sealants. I like OSI gutter sealant for body screws and very top of the edge trim, depending on where the trailer will live. The operative words here are VERY SPARINGLY. As in invisible. A little dab'll do ya...

Thanks guys, and gals......I was actually thinkin in bout the gutter seal for the screw heads cause I know it works well and is easy to control outta the tube rather than a caulking gun. The only thing I like silicone for is a waterproof glue and showers indoors.
