Hi everyone, my name is Travis. I'm out of southern Utah. Just bought what I think is a 1958 Shasta Airflyte. No title or registration. It was the previous home to a lot of mice and wasps. But she made it to her new home safely and now I'm in the clean up stage. Hope to hear from many of you and hope to post some pics soon.

Hi Kolob,
I just acquired a '59 Shasta Airflyte last week and am located in the Salt Lake City area. I'd love to see some pics of your find. There is a lot of useful info on this board and the people here are most helpful. Have you uncovered the Vin# stamped into the frame on the curbside near the coupler? That is as good of start as any in identifing the year of your trailer. Also, if it still has the original mirror there will be a date stamped on the back of it that will help determine the year of the trailer. There might be some other things you can dig into but those are the two things I know about to determine the year. If you post pictures(inside and out) on the board here, I'm sure all the great people here will help you figure it out.

Hey Drake, Thanks for the interest...kinda new to the trailer restoration thing but loving it! Your 59' looks great hopefully the inside is in better shape than mine...I'll try to figure out how to post some pics. I have done some extensive research on my shasta since I got it last weekend...no title no registration and no mirror but I'm about 95% sure it's a 58' because of the safari windows and wooden screen door...I actually had the police over today to do a VIN/registration inspection and it came up clean....he couldn't give me a birth year but at least I feel better about going to the DMV now... I'll keep you posted on the progress and appreciate any help I can get.

Check on the bottom of that sink for a stamped date. It would provide you with the manufacture date of the sink...not necessarily the trailer, but it could not have been originally manufactured before the sink was. There should be a white-lettered stamp somewhere on the bottom side. It will not necessarily be readily seen.

Welcome Tyler! You've got yourself a real project. Don't throw away the metal plate covering the left front window. That's the tray for the ice box that the ice sits on. As a mater of fact, don't throw away anything when you clean out the trailer. You may discover in the restoration process what that part was you threw away and how difficult it is to find a replacement. Your trailer could very well be a "59". I'm surprised the wings are still on it.

Welcome in and thanks for the pictures. MAN! looks fun, but looks like a lot of hard work as well. She's a beaut! Good eye on the "ice slab plate!" over the front window shastanuts... Looks like a gaggle of Vampire bats attacked them in the desert. They salvaged everything to board the place up and waited until dawn. If the walls could talk..... I like My 71.. but looking at this girl. It makes you want one of the classics.

Thanks Ten for the heads up on the sink but still no luck on a birth year... I'll make sure not to throw anything away Shastanut...good eye on the ice box tray! I removed the old CA license plate off of it today and turned it around to find the year 63' stamped underneath the stickers (which I'm not going to remove) I'm still confused cause I thought safari windows and a wooden screen door were qualifiers for pre 60's shasta trailers....I guess it could have sat in the dealers lot for a few years before someone bought it, which by the way there is a faded sticker on the back that reads "King Richards" Trailers Compton, Ca It won't be the end of the world but it would be nice to have the correct year on the new title.

Did you look for the little welded plate on the inside of the tongue? The VIN shouldn't be that difficult to find; they are all in the same place on this era Shastas. Try paint stripper on the top of the tongue. (door side) "Think" the small plate is welded on the inside of the tongue, street side.

Yeah I got the VIN from the tongue and even had an officer do a certificate of inspection on it... He called it in and found no history on it other than the last time it was registered which was in 2002....his system didn't say where but I'm going to assume in California. It's a mystery...I plan on hitting the DMV next week...hopefully they can zero down a year...if not then I'm going with either a 58' or 59'

The Shasta data base on the old forum may provide some answers. Compare your VIN to what's there. Letters are "where built" and numbers signify possible order of build. Some also provide clues to the year...
In other words, a P14160 would be earlier than a P14970...
