Ok, I freely admit it. I suffer from vintage camper envy. I've come here to heal and hopefully overcome my envy by finding a little ham to call my very own. After endless trolling of Craigslist ads and vintage camper sites I discovered this forum with a trailers for sale forum as well. Hoping I'll spot a legit buy here. I'm inspired by Mary Jane Butters Airstream glamper restoration and hope to find a little gem of my own to transform in a similar fashion.
I love all the info, pics and insights you all share. It makes me feel like I'm a camper kitty too...even though my special camper hasn't found me yet.
They are Hard to find in Maine! It seems all the FAB ones for sale are in CA or TX. Still, I remain hopeful and am tickled to join this forum...at least I'm one of the gang now, even without my vintage camper by spring (which at this rate will be June), I will hopefully have found a special camper to call my own. In the meantime I learn from all of you! Thanks!

Sorry, if you want to heal, this isn't the place to do it. Here you will only find people who are chronically ill with the vintage trailer virus. There is no vaccination, there is no cure. So, welcome, and just BE your "illness" and have fun like the rest of us!

The Texans there all thought the good trailers and great deals are on the East Coast if that makes you feel any better!

Welcome, good luck and keep looking. I downloaded an app to make Craigslist searching easier. That wont heal you either, but will improve your trolling efficiency. Before I screened my searches to the SE, I saw quite a few in the NE.
One potential positive to finding one in New England, it will be less likely that some bullethead cut a hole in the side of the camper and shoved in a residential window AC unit.
EDIT: I guess I only (actively) looked about 4-5 weeks for mine, but did drive 400mi to get it. I think I got lucky on my search but I originally started out looking for a classic 50s canned ham, but then I kept seeing some 67-70 Holiday Rambler campers that kept grabbing my attn. Prior to that I spent a couple months getting myself worked up by following sites like this.

The AirFlyte we just got was in Rockton, Illinois (5 miles south of Beloit, Wisconsin). We live outside Santa Fe, NM.
2800 mile round trip. We looked at it as an opportunity to go on a road trip (and stay in some vintage motel rooms).

We're in Houston and I haven't seen many in Texas. We got ours in Arizona! In any case, welcome to the forum

Catnip, there is NO CURE. You are in this for the long run...
You may have noticed above that travel may be in your future. If you find "the" trailer miles away, it may be worth the trip. Please do your homework here and learn how to discern the good ones from Lipstick on a Pig.

Thanks for the warm welcome all you camper cats and kittens! Glad to be here. Lots of great info to be had and lessons to be learned by those who've gone before me. I did discover Maine is the place to be if you don't need a title - can register like an old boat or car if it's pre 1995 - no title needed. So, that should open the field but so far haven't seen anything that doesn't need a complete redo and overpriced at the start. Or...simply out of my price range. Most deals are states and states away or the other side of the country altogether surely they'll be a lonely camper in New England needing a friend. Here's hoping. I am surprised so many of you have purchased campers far from home...seems darn risky to me, but you must know how to read details in pictures. I love checking the for sale board...great place to learn what the experts ( or addicts, you choose) think about condition and value. Meow! PS. Love your profile pic vikx! Gorgeous!

Depends what your looking for, i just wanted something with all the windows and skin in good shape, so it was fairly easy to see in pics. If I wanted one that was ready to camp in I wouldn't have gone so far or trusted pictures as much.

Why thank you, preen, purr... You can find a trailer long distance with our help. We look for flaws in iffy ones and admire well done trailers. The thing is, if a trailer is claimed to be restored, it's pretty easy to tell whether it is or not. Pictures tell a good story. If they are missing, be suspicious. Also, "most" trailers that have not had repairs NEED them. It is rare to find a usable trailer that doesn't need work, especially nowadays. Good luck on the Hunt.

In the meantime I learn from all of you! Thanks! Until a week ago I was in your shoes, and I have been looking for several years and like you all the gems were on the left coast or Texas. I finally found the canned ham style that we wanted and in the South that is a big demand because they didn't build the mid 50's Shastas of my dreams in the South. I found a rough old project and probable paid a little more than some of our seasoned members would have but I am happy with it and have a lot of work in store, there is not a doubt in my mind you will find what you desire, sometimes it happens when you are not even looking...that's how this one found me.
