Welcome to VTT bfox! First of all, looks like a nice unit. I assume from the pics, you are talking about the aluminum trim along the bottom of the skins that is hanging below the skins in a few places. This would be early signs of rotten wood along the bottom skirts. The wood rots and then the screws let loose. It's pretty easy to drop the bottom trim and the bottom skins and replace the bottom boards. Then put it back together. Check out this repair I've done on a couple units this past summer; vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/723/lowflyte-68-grrrrrreatand; vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/723/lowflyte-68-grrrrrreatDon't want to understate this kind of repair but it is a fairly common repair with almost all non repaired units needing this repair first. It's pretty basic straight forward repair. Not too hard but time consuming. Buy a tool named the Kreg Jig JR. You will need it to join wood sticks together. It runs about $45 or less at your local Lowes. If you decide to do yourself, be sure to support side walls from inside while you are doing the repairs. This can be done with T shaped sticks in the center from floor propped against ceiling or what I call cheater sticks mounted to the inside walls below the bench height where they won't show but have to be wide enough to over lap floor to hold walls up with the floor surface. See pics in above repair threads too. Once you have these side boards replaced, don't be surprised if you have to do same on front and back. However your unit doesn't appear to have skin sag yet and may be pretty solid otherwise. Good Luck, keep us posted on your progress. Have fun and enjoy the site. Soup

I agree. Skirt Rot. An easy and fun fix. There's really no quick way to do it.

Thanks Soup, really helpful info. I'll post back here in the future as I work on it. With all this snow still in the northeast, that might not be for a little while yet. So, time to read up on this stuff and prepare!

Soup, you also mentioned skin sag - what is that exactly and what does it look like? Figure I should know so I can look out for it if it ever starts to happen.

Skin sag is when the alum skin starts to bulge or wrinkle where it should be flat. Usually a sign of rotted framing.

I do not mean to pick on anyone's trailer, but here is an example of "sag" for you. Notice the "frown" over the hitch... It is an indication that the framework is rotting out along the leading edge of the front. The aluminum is essentially supporting the weight of the front wall, and resting on the hitch frame.

Ten, That's a classic example of sag/rot. Good photo.

Thanks Ten! Now I know what to watch out for. Although by the time sag happens I guess the damage is already done. But it helps to know for sure!

Oh believe me, it's still fixable even when the sag happens! LOL Think vintage trailer plastic surgeon.
