I saw a discussion about different types of screws which made me think of this. Are people worried about the wings on their camper being stolen? does this happen often? I was thinking about this the other day and was wondering if it would be wise to use different screws for the wings to make it a little more difficult for someone to permanently borrow my them. Thanks in advance, mattyshorts

If you keep your trailer in a public storage lot then I would screw them in from the inside also. If not I wouldn't worry about it.

Matty, as you are aware, wings are a prized possession and are now going for big bucks on eBay. I've never actually heard of any being stolen. Someone did suggest bolting them on but I thought the idea was just to make them more secure. Disregard my comments in posts about Aloha stealing my wing, LOL, it's a running joke. I am going to engrave my VIN # on the inside of my wings just in case I should ever need to identify them.
Short version, just make sure you have them securely attached.

I bolted mine on with small long bolts (stainless) then polished them to a mirror finish, and used acorn nuts on the inside to make it look a bit nicer.

I also added backing in the wall so that the screws had a good purchase. Same for bolts, lots of support. I think Susie's and Universal's ideas are very good.

Thanks for the responses....public storage around here is out in a field...lol..it's free, but not secure...so I think I'll go with the bolting method for piece of mind....just knocked a foot of snow off of the camper and she's dry inside. Vikx, I did add some backing for extra support so I'm good with that....Now, If I was only ready to camp in it! Soon I hope.

I realize if somebody really wants these wings, they will get them. I'm trying to make it harder, but if they have a cordless sawzall, that's all she wrote....I don't think those kinds of thieves are into camping, but you never know.

I hope they are still too busy with catalytic converters in car storage lots, copper pipes and wires in new housing and AC condensers on the sides of churches and schools. We had someone in our area who got busted selling flat screen TV's in the box out of a van. Trick was they were oven doors from out of newly built homes!

How about removable Velcro attached wings. You put them on when you are stopped and take them down and put them inside when you travel. How about wings that flap!!!
