Hello We recently purchased a 1969 Aristocrat with what looks like the original propane gas lamp. We were testing to see if the stove and lamp work. The stove works but not the oven. When we light the lamp the flames come out of the holes on the top instead of the bottom through the globe. With help we learned we needed a mantel. We weren’t sure which mantel we needed but started with a Coleman tie-on mantel and tried to light it again but the same thing occurred where the flame came out above through the two holes. So can someone explain what the purpose of those two holes at the top of the globe are meant for? How do we determine what mantle or other parts we need? If it suspected to be a leak, how do we determine that? Your lamp is missing the ceramic burner nose that screws on to the bottom thread. A fireproof gasket seals the joint between the two. The mantle hangs on the burner nose and the holes on top are for the air to enter for combustion. My lamp is different than yours but I was able to get parts from PropaneProducts.com.

None of my lamps have had the fitting with two holes... I'm wondering if the lamp needs cleaning and a PO tried to add "air" to facilitate burning.
Yes, you do need a ceramic nose and gas lamp mantle (not coleman). There are different sizes, so not all noses will fit. You might consider turning your lamp into a 12 volt fixture with LED lights.

I have ordered the burner nose and mantle so we'll see if that works. Thanks!
