Hi. I bought my first ever camper a couple weeks ago. It's a Shasta Airflyte registered as a 1965 - see profile picture. I can't find the VIN, but I think it is earlier for a couple of reasons. First: the wings have a wood core. It is my understanding that the core went away from wood in 1961. Second: There was a wood screen door under a pile of junk in the RV. If it is original, my understanding is that they went aluminum in 1961.
I also found a couple of interesting tags in the pile of junk. One is a California tag that is from the Division of Housing and it has a serial number. Is there a way to date the camper with this tag?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Your theory about the age of your trailer makes sense but I think you will need the VIN to date it correctly. Per the picture below, the VIN on my 62 Airflyte was stamped on a tag that is welded to the inside of the frame behind the tongue. I had to gently remove the paint and rust to read it. I had my trailer frame professionally sandblasted and painted so I left a note on the frame to remind the sandblaster not to obliterate the VIN number.

Thanks for the reply newin62. Unfortunately there is no VIN on the tongue. I was hoping that California tag would lead somewhere.
