I was just wondering if anyone has a compact microwave that they have had good luck with and if so could provide me a make and model number? Looking at buying one just to take with in my vehicle as needed. Do not plan on mounting it permanently in the camper. They are probably all pretty much the same but I figured I would ask. Not sure if you can still get a decent wattage in the compact microwaves or if you have to sacrifice that for the size? Any opinions would be appreciated.

You wouldn't want to go higher than 750 watts on a vintage trailer electrical system. Most of the small ones are all alike-you're right there.

Whirlpool has one that’s about the smallest out there. It has 750 watts with an 0.5 cu ft capacity and will hold a dinner plate. It’s smaller by several inches than other small micros because its footprint is more square than oblong. I guess one doesn’t really use the sides of the micro unless you’re heating a big pan of lasagne. Anyway, the downside is that it’s also more expensive, but also much more portable than the others. $180~190, and it comes in several colors. I wish I could give you a user’s report, but we don’t have one yet. It is the one we’ve chosen for our almost-finished little cabin (or “cabin-et” if you will).
Let us know what you decide, or if you’ve found something better.
