I was looking at some pictures online of some compacts and noticed one that didnt have the upper running lights in the front or rear. It also had the tear drop side markers with the rear one down low. Does anyone know when they last used the starburst on the front and rear?

So far as actual manufacturing specs go, I cannot say for absolute sure, but my 1969 had the remains of the "starburst" lenses on the markers. (By remains, I mean some had been replaced with the more modern ones...) The 1970 and on that I have seen had the more "modern" plain round lenses. The sides on the 70's (or so) have been the oval but plain lenses. Also, my '64 Airflyte had just the 4 markers on it, on the sides, none above the front or rear windows. The more modern need for the marker lights is different from state to state, and most want the greatest visibility possible, but most of the states also will allow for the originals to be kept.

Love the tow vehicle for the airflyte Mine may actually be a 69 then, I've just guesed on the 70 and then noticed that. Mine also doesn't have the compact plate . I can't wait to order new starburst from VTS and see em shine, Now if I can find a couple of good pathfinders "reasonable" lol.

That was the Airflyte's first trip anywhere in 35 years. The tow worked flawlessly that day.
I had intended to replace all of the markers on the '69 with the starburst lights from VTS also. I do love the look, and might just change some of the more modern ones as I go...but the ones on the Airflyte are safe!....
The Pathfinders come along once in a while...the last set I saw went for a lot, but once in a while they do come along pretty reasonable. Feelers will be out...

I believe the upper lights were required beginning in 1968. My 67 Land Commanders didn't have them, but the Loflytes (68 and 69) did.

Does "Napa" sell those as well? Seems like I saw a link to those "Starburst" style on the old site. I have all of mine, be them a little fuzzy. The base is what looks the worst. I guess I could paint them. I would like new ones. (ka ching,ka ching) Does the VTS package include the complete assembly? Light base and lenses? I have two white lense ones in the rear outboard sides. They look even worst.

Can't really beat the price for the either .... Most markers I priced locally are 5$ + for modern ones
