Hello, I’ve been given the opportunity to acquire a vintage, mid 1960s, small travel trailer that is relatively solid but will use some restoration work. My issue is that I have a large garage but it’s designed for cars not trailers, so it’s not tall enough to get the trailer inside. I have extensive experience in woodworking, cabinetry, and carpentry so I’m not worried about performing the work I’m just wondering if it is at all practical have a trailer outside under a camper cover while I do the restoration. I would appreciate some opinions and if this sounds ridiculous you can tell me that too!! From the couple of times I’ve looked at it, it seems to need more of a refurbishment than a total gut job

Hey there. It’s no problem. I put up a 10x20 tent over a pad next to my tiny garage shop. I’m doing a complete frame off in this space. Dismantled the entire trailer under the tent and now the slow rebuild process. So go get yourself a decent tent, I bought the extra tall frame version from Amazon and it’s worked great.

Mine wasn't frame off, but same idea. I used tarps over the area I was working on, and like Tincanalley I had a tiny workshop. It isn't ideal, but it can be done. I had to plan the work around the weather, and it probably took way more time than if inside.
Some people have been able to deflate the trailer tires, or even remove the wheels in order to to squeeze into a garage. Have at it...it will be rewarding when it is finished.

Doing one camper with tarps was enough for me. After the first camper, I built a lean to.

Hello Tincanalley. Can you tell me which tent you got from Amazon specifically? There are so many it would be great to know of one that works in real life. Thank You. Trailer in question is 11’ 6” (body) with a 3’ overhanging bunk for total of 14’ 6” not including hitch length
