Perhaps there’s already a thread on this if so, I’ll add. But here’s my question. When I go to rebuild my door , I was going to try and refurbish the handle lock original to the trailer. PO slapped on a standard hasp with padlock for some measure of security. So, how do we keep our trailers secure after investing countless hours and money? Is there a better door lock system that can be sort of hidden within the vintage lock? Like a beefed up deadbolt? I’ve finished framing the walls and added a wider piece of framing for the deadbolt. Send the links pics ideas of what the community has done in this area. I know everyone’s trailers could have different vintage handle locks….just thinking of a better more solid design but with a retro vibe that’s fits with my 58 Jewel. Actually did some more searching through the forum. And regardless of the lock…I think BigBill’s post nails it
“ Keep in mind that locks only discourage honest people. A battery power screw driver will remove a window in a heart beat if some really wants in.”

I agree completely. If somebody wants into vintage camper, they will get in. It does discourage lazy thieves.
I found some replacement pieces on vintagecampersupply.com and others on eBay. Does it just need rekeyed?

Hi Friends,
Depending on costs, it might be cheaper to just by a new front L handle with a new interior latch assembly rather than rekey. You can reuse the interior latch, but some may want a new look or some will try to clean it up and possibly paint.
If you are rebuilding the door consider all new hardware. Make it your own.😊
