Hi! My husband and I are currently popup camper owners. We purchased our pup about a year and a half ago and we did a complete floor remodel as it was leaking and had some pretty bad water damage. While we love our pup, we also love the idea of a camper we don't have to set up and can access easily without having to set it up in 100 degree weather that south Louisiana so graciously offers us 😀. Since we pull with a 4 door Jeep Wrangler, we also have to be careful of how much we're pulling. I pretty much had my heart set on a scamp as our next camper until I came across a fb ad for what's listed as a 1962 Flagstaff. Now, I know it's not a Flagstaff as my research tells me they weren't produced until the 70's. I'm pretty sure what I'm looking at is a Monitor. Title has it listed as hmde (homemade)? I do know that it originally came from Indiana. Unfortunately, Google was pretty much useless when it came to looking anything up about Monitor Campers or the company that made them. (So if anyone has info they can share on this topic, I'm super interested!) We're going look at the camper tomorrow. They only want $500 and I'm told that it's only had 2 owners. This will be our first full restore if we decide to purchase. My husband is extremely handy, but I'd appreciate any tips of what to look for tomorrow! Here's a link to the listing (it's not sold). www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/5271476532900523/

Hello and welcome,
I just checked the ad and it's been sold just 4 hours after your initial post. Did you end up with the trailer?
I have some concerns about using the Wrangler as a tow vehicle. That trailer probably weighs in @2000 lbs. Does your Wrangler have the tow package? Through a little research, I found that wranglers can tow up to 3500 lbs. with a tow package and only 2000 lbs. without. If you have the tow package, you could barely get by. You will most likely need to slow down for mountain areas and head winds.
The Scamp is much less in weight. I figured that's why you were originally looking for one. My research shows Scamps weigh in between 1200 to 1600 lbs. no doubt due to the fiberglass shell. That weight would be okay with the 3500 lbs. Tow package maximum, but not the 2000 max of a wrangler without a tow package. Add people in the vehicle and camping gear and you are get closer to the 2000 lbs. maximum.
Please fill us in on what your Wrangler can do and we can try to recommend a size that works for you if necessary.
Cheers,
Rod

Welcome! I also checked the ad. I'm guessing it's at least 2500 pounds and has had a lot of the vintage charm removed. Interior paint is frowned on for a vintage trailer. It looks to be a frame up in order to replace the damaged painted interior walls.
We have lots of advice on buying vintage trailers here which are good reading. Also whether a trailer actually IS vintage or not. Try to stick with smaller ham shaped trailers. Hard to go wrong then.
