At this point, you don't have a lot of choices to cover the gaps. I would use OSI gutter seal (Lowes in the 5oz tube-not caulk) and seal all the staple divots first. Any place you think water could cause trouble, seal it. Removing the edge trim will help you get to the divots and flaws. Smooth with a paint thinner dipped finger, as flat as possible. OSI is very clear and takes paint well.
Both "legs" of the edge trim should have putty. You might be able to rubber hammer the curves a little flatter. Once you are satisfied you can do no more (adjustments and fit), you can then seal the gaps with OSI. This may be one place that a caulk tube might come in handy, tho I've never used OSI in caulk form.
You've done a beautiful job on your trailer and I know you're disappointed at this set back. Do your best, study a lot before changes and finally, go camping.
