Has anyone tried sturdy screening like hardware screen or even rabbit fence?
I'm thinking that it would be strong enough to hold in insulation and allow drainage and airflow. Of course it won't do much for road splash.
Thoughts?

Whatever is the solid belly should be waterproofed with something rubbery before the screen goes on. I don't like the thought of bugs inside the belly...

Well after seeing what a solid belly did to my donor camper, I'm not thrilled with the idea. Trapping water is bad.
FWIW, I'm using styrene sheet insulation and will probably treat the wood with Thompsons or something similar.
Bugs will get in no matter how tight you think it's sealed up.

The donor had a large sheet of plastic, not metal. Still it held any and all water that got in.
