I have an original Bargman L66 that I have cleaned, rechromed, and rebuilt. I also successfully swapped out the key cylinder. Everything seems to work well. The key turns smoothly and unlocks the door when locked from the inside. When locking from the outside, I pull back the handle and can turn the key to get plate to slide into place to keep handle popped out and locked, problem is, all I have to do is pull outside handle back further back and it trips the locking mechanism. Strange thing is, it will stay locked if I Don’t screw the inner handle on. Something seems to be canted funny and I can’t figure it out. Anyone experience this? Have any recommendations?

I'm not sure the handle should be popped out to lock? I think it has to be closed firmly for the lock to work.

When the handle is pressed flat (not pulled out) there is a notch in the handle that gets locked in place by an inner lever. Is that how your lock is working?

Thx for pix and explanation how the lock works. I hadn’t looked at it closely enough. Think the return spring for handle had weakened a bit. I got it to lock if I pushed the handle in from outside. Lever wouldn’t drop into slot when locking from inside. I dremmeled the notch just a bit, filed the edges, greased her up, and she works like new. Thx!
