I'm replacing all the rotton framing on my 1963 Kenskill (Petunia).
The original pieces were attached with staples that don't seem to be available any longer. Is there any reason I can't use framing brackets (intended for fences) to rebuild?
See collage. Thanks!

Those are mending plates. my 1957 camper was held together similiary with small peices of left over aluminum siding and framing nails. I used the Kreg jig system to secure all of the new joints.

Go with the kreg jig. The framing brackets or mending plates can interfere with or rub your skins.

Go with the kreg jig. The framing brackets or mending plates can interfere with or rub your skins. Is it necessary to use the kreg jig on the entire frame? If so, I’m guessing this maybe allows flexibility in the structure as opposed to traditional house framing that would nail in from the side whenever possible?

Not much flexibility, no. Kreg screws are handy substitutes instead of nails. Any weak or wobbly framing should be made sturdy without movement. This is accomplished with the screws and possibly marrying (sistering) wood braces. You can use an L bracket here and there as long as it doesn't interfere with the skin or inside panels. One place might be in the back under the bed to strengthen the wall attachment. Cargo doors can be a little wide with less support at the wall bottom. These brackets won't show. Here is my Aljo build that shows a lot of little tricks: 56aljo.shutterfly.com/ Click on pictures and videos to view the albums. Probably be good to start from Original and work up...

The staples are still available. They are wide crown roofing staples. Probably not the best way to join framing, but they are very fast. I bought a dewalt pneumatic stapler and it does work very well. It made short work of laying up a wall.

Once you start using a Kreg jig, you'll want to use it everywhere. Forget the staples.
