What are people's thoughts on perfectly securing Romex - or 12V wires for that matter - to framing pieces under the skin? Necessary or overkill? Their runs through holes in the framing keep them fairly tidy but the 12V stuff gets pretty squirrely in a few spots.
If a piece of Romex or 12V wire ends up poking through the insulation and touching the skin is it the end of the world?
Thanks

I run the wires together where possible and zip-strap them. Otherwise I leave them as the factory had them, unattached. I like the leave a little extra wire and push it into the wall so there is plenty for repairs. I've never had a short because of skin contact.

I run my wiring thru holes in the studs and staple only if needed. Staples should be snug but not tight to keep from pinching the wires. I use ties where needed, again not overtight. Neat and clean is the way I like mine; they don't ever touch the skin. If I think clearance will be close, duct tape works well.

Excellent - I'll be striking a balance and trying to keep things away from the skin but not freak out about it...
Thanks

No one said this but my concern would the wire never touch anything where it could vibrate and rub on the insulation. Really the same principles as wiring a car or a boat. Remove the risk of a wire being damaged and shorting.
Pretty simple to just make sure they are secure with no chance of it rubbing, 12 volt or 110.

I skipped the Romex and went with all mc cable. Be sure to paint where your cables are so you don’t run a screw in it.
