Hi All - I am currently in process of trying to restore a kitchen cabinet to a 59 Shasta Airflyte. I have a question as to originality of the door design beneath the oven as shown in the pics included at the following link. www.flickr.com/gp/188327157@N05/2d5PNaAs you can see, the design is a faux drawer front. Otherwise, it looks as if there are two doors when actually there is one large door. The hinges look original but I was wondering if anyone else has that particular design in their Shasta?

I have a '60, built in '59, and mine are actual drawers. That looks like something done not from factory.

I concur with Theresa. In my (unmolested) '63, those are drawers.

Thanks guys for the comments. I have looked inside the cabinet and see no signs of past cabinet holes etc. but will check closely again. It looks pretty good on the outside but the inside of mine look pretty cobbled up If you all have some pics of your drawers under the oven i would appreciate it. I may try to redo mine with a good look at what you all have. Thank you again.

Another idea that I was thinking, "does the location of build make a difference" - meaning; Did any of the locations do things slightly different than others. My 59 Airflyte was built in Indiana. Could a Pennsylvania built or California built be slightly different. I know some Shastas of this era used different interior wood paneling or staining. I have seen some from California that had a blonder look to the interior paneling vs some made in Indiana. So, this being the case, could it be possible that some made singular drawers under the ovens and could other locations have made a faux look to have one larger opening with the two drawer fronts as pictured in my earlier pics. Just a thought. I would appreciate any other comments or ideas on this from those who know Shasta products better than I. Thank You.

Our early Compact has the same two drawers under the stove.

My '63 was built in Goshen, Indiana. Here are some cabinet details. Very simple. 2 drawers, one slide rail in the middle for each. A slight indent in the back bottom of the drawers to keep them on the slide rails. Another slight indent (pictured) bottom front of the drawers to keep them from sliding out while traveling.

Thanks all for comments and pics. Looks like I have a modification on my lower cabinets. Just got to decide on keeping the modification or not. It actually creates more usable space under the oven.
