I have a 1968 corsair air with an aluminum framed awning/shield. I would like to take it apart to polish it and replace the yellow fiberglass panels. Unfortunately the aluminum corners are crimped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did a search, but maybe I'm not using the correct name for this part. My awning search just turned up a bunch of fabric discussions.

If you're replacing the fiberglass, you might be able to carefully multitool the crimps, then replace with some sort of good looking L bracket. Most were screwed and you might be able to do that too to put it back together.

I faced crimps that were put in place to hold the rubber rain shields on my Herr windows. I total mess. I tried drilling them out from the side, but still it was hard to remove the old damaged seals. I hate any building strategy that is not reversible.

Hi, 68Corsair, Glad to see you asking questions. The thing that covers the front window is called a rock guard or a road guard. On the forum, I have seen both terms used. Maybe that will help in your search. I thought I remember someone who had taken one apart. I can't find it, right now, though. Rod
