This is a fantastic trailer story. Love that you are the original owner and have kept the trailer all these years. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to all of you who posted the kind comments. I'm sure you can understand why I'm obsessed with this Shasta thing. Since some of you said you enjoyed the history I'm going to share a bit more. We had a dining tent with a picnic table in it that we set up every May and took down in September. I installed a 12 volt sureflow demand pump that pumped straight out of the lake. In 1986 I mounted a used propane water heater under the back of the trailer that was pulled from a wrecked Airstream that I paid $200 for (that was a real luxury!). In those days the lake only had two cottages on it and we drank the lake water straight up, untreated and unfiltered. There was a lot of screaming and yelling if someone opened the door at dusk and let the mosquitoes in the camper and everything we owned smelled of mosquito coils. We had an outhouse out back and I attached a small portico to the front of the trailer that was just big enough for a port-a-potti and a broom. I mounted the trailer door and screen to the front of the portico including the spring latch that holds the door open. There was a deep cycle marine battery under the bench that only ran the water pump and a seldom used lamp over the dinette. We mostly used the propane lamp at night and we left a small hurricane lamp on all night so the kids could make their way to the potty without waking us up. I got rid of the original cots and put a plywood base and foam mattress in their place over the bed in the back for the kids. They went to bed much earlier than us so we just opened the cabinet doors over the sink and the fridge to block the light and we never had any problems with them not falling asleep. We had a Coleman naphtha lamp that we used out in the screened tent and we had a "Ghetto Blaster" stereo that we hung on a dead branch of an old pine tree. We spent most evenings around the fire listening to quiet folk music looking up at the sky. We used the Holiday stove to cook some our meals but mostly to make Maxwell House instant coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. We always cooked whatever we could outside on an open fire including our bacon and eggs in the morning. In August we ate corn on the cob almost every day. The little propane fridge worked ok but we always had a problem with the wind bowing out the pilot light. There was no room for beer in there but we always had at least one cooler with us. The 8000 btu vented furnace worked well but didn't have a thermostat so it got hot in there very fast. I then upgraded the gas valve so we could leave the furnace on and not worry about it. The pics from 1992 below are of our permanent campsite in the summer, the kids making mud pies and my wife in her normal position, reading the paper. You can see the screened tent in the background, the portico on the front and the water heater under the back of the trailer. I still have some older pics from the late 70s and 80s somewhere and I'll post some of them later if I can find them. Just wait til you hear the fishing stories! You are very fortunate to have had a place like that to use for that many years. What most of us wouldn't give to have access to a location such as that. Priceless, just priceless.

Great skins. Perfect restoration project. I'm still amazed at the rafting across the lake.

Oh dang. I've been thinking about using a pontoon boat for exactly the same thing. Only I would remove the axle and make the trailer permanent. Hope this restore is going to get going now. Amazing story for sure and it just keeps getting better. But we're all getting older too so hurry up ok? LOL...

Most of us don’t know the stories our campers can tell when we get them. You are lucky to know yours. It’s great to see the pics. ThNks!
