Welcome!
In NC the number DMV often has is the system is their VIN not the factory number.
I’m not an expert on “newer campers” be I think it’s a 1978. The wheel wells went a little more square in the early 80s. Here is a 78 Shasta photo from online:
On older campers they often stamped the year on the underside of the sink or behind the mirror.

Welcome. I don't think it's got surge brakes judging from the partial photo of the tongue. Check with the DMV, they might request a new VIN be stamped. It could be somewhere on the tongue, usually top rail.

You'll want to figure the VIN out and get this trailer titled before you put any more money into it. Once you've figured out the VIN and get it titled then you can move on. Surge brakes are easily identified. You'll see a little resevoire with a little hydrolic slave cylinder on top of the front of the tongue. Get us a photo and we'll let you know for sure. Right now that's not your biggest problem. Before you begin tearing out parts of the trailer you will want to know all the basics of rebuilding and restoring a trailer. You will need to educate yourself BEFORE you start anything at all. This will save you time, money and headaches. The VIN is there. You just need to uncover it. Wire brush is the best way to get through the paint. If the VIN has been removed then it may very well be a stolen trailer. That's why you want to make sure and title it before doing anything else. Welcome and good luck. VIKX has a great little E book on the order of disassembly and build going all the way through your build. Even though you have a newer trailer they are still basically all built the same using the same engineering. I have 900 videos on the subject also so be sure to visit my website at www.cannedhamtrailers.com

Ditto everything above. Don't start ripping anything apart before you do your homework. The styling of your trailer looks to be 1978 vintage. In that case, there was a distinct difference between the two models. The 1850 had the entry door located rearward of the axle, the 1950 was forward of it. The weights were listed as 3210 for the 1950, and 3190 for the 1850, a pretty negligible difference. Also, both models were listed as having electric brakes as standard equipment. This won't help with the ID of the VIN or your DMV searches, but there is some useful information here: vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/8852/shasta-1978-catalog?page=1&scrollTo=87123
