As you can see I have lot of work ahead. How do I remove the exterior heater vent? I used some putty knives to slowly try and pry it loose, but had no luck. However I didn't use a lot of muscle because i did't want to damage it. Is it connected to the interior part of the unit or do I need to pry and wiggle until it comes free?

Scotty's vent was press fit only, and had rusted just enough to give it some fight. For me pry and wiggle along with some explicit declarations on what the ugly outcome would be if it didn't give in was the solution. Reasoning for me (and I've been wrong before} was that mechanical fasteners inside the wall, over time might could leak bad gasses into the living area.

It's probably rusted in time onto the furnace exhaust. Very common.
I winched mine out with a come along. First got the thing loose and then wrapped a strap around the vent. Tied it to a post and cranked. Took a lot of fight and the whole trailer moved once... a good angle helps.
