We are refurbishing our '60 Deluxe 19, and part of the process was to remove the antiquated water heater. Tankless is definitely the way to go, but does anyone here have experience with a particular model, or warnings to stay away from any particular one?

Yes, the PO put one in our Deluxe along with a on demand pump and it works great. I adjust it just a little because one campground may have better water pressure than another. We love it. It's one of the ones like you can buy at camping world and it fits perfect in the original compartment. If yours is a 1960 I think the access door is smaller than the compartment is in height with a small vent above the door. Ours is a 1961 and the door is the full height of the compartment.
I'll try to find a name and model number for you.

59pinkdeluxe...not sure she's on here yet put one in hers and loves it. It's under one of the dinette benches I think. You can probably still pm her on the other board.

I have been looking for one which will fit in the original space...and then trying to see reviews of the individual model. So far, Marey is one brand and Eco-something is another whom builds models that will fit.

I found a Marey model which fits neatly into the original 'locker' , but have not yet gotten to the water system to install it yet. I will, of course, post a complete review of my experience with this unit once it is in place.

Who was it that mounted one on the wall above the toilet? That was us. We put it on the front wall in the large closet/now bathroom in the Compact. The Compact is pretty small and there was really no other place to put it. We beefed up the framing just a bit to accommodate the extra weight. It works great and it was nice to have the hose and shower head included int he price. We got ours online, but it looks pretty similar to the eccotemp above. There are adjustments you make for incoming water pressure and for the temp of the incoming water (summer/winter). The water pressure triggers the electronic ignition to light the gas heating element and the result is almost instantaneous. I'm currently staying in Hamlet weekdays (rather than a 2.5 hour each way daily commute) in a really nice RV park, but prefer to use Hamlet's "facilities" rather than the more commodious ones that the park has. One thing we learned is to unscrew the shower head from the hose after use to drain the remaining water from both. Otherwise you get dripping for hours and hours as it empties itself. I don't like a wet floor.

I have one as well, but I have yet to install it. it's and echotemp Universal, are you planning on being hooked up to shore power with this all of the time? It looks to be the only one I can find that is an interior mount, LP gas but it won't work off the grid, right? Im trying to find one that will work either/or. Maybe that is asking too much! haha....I do like this one tho

We have the Eccotemp L-5.
It works great with full hookups. We recently camped where they have poor water pressure and you could not run the hot and cold at the same time. So you could set the temp by adding a little cold water. I thought about removing my pressure reducer from the supply line at the hose bibb but did not try that. The pressure was low enough that if you turned on the cold water there was not enough flow on the hot and the unit would shutdown, with it in the Deluxe water heater compartment you have to run outside to adjust the temp when the pressure is that low. Makes for an interesting shower and quite a show for the campers around you! It should work on a 12V pump system, if the pump can flow enough water you won't have this problem. It just needs gas, adequate water flow, and D batteries to ignite.
I recommend full hookups because a nice warm shower can be longer and relaxing if you don't have to worry about your grey water and freshwater tanks.
I'm looking into installing the handheld nozzle it comes with on the back somewhere for a larger outdoor shower. I'm 6'4" so there isn't much room for scrubbing in that tiny shower. I also plan to cover all the walls, inside of door, and floor under the toilet with aluminum and just have the curtain at the door.

no I will also be able to run it off a small inverter if I want, yes it does use 120 volt power, however it only requires 1.07 amps while in operation, and only .016 amps when static, the 120 power only powers the internal exhaust fan and the digital display. even the smallest coverters can handle that. so hooked up right it shouldnt be an issue.

Okay that makes sense. I am torn between your model and the Eccotemp 5 portable so we don't have to vent it inside, and the Eccotemp 5 is more affordable. The guy who is doing our rebuild suggested that if we did the Eccotemp 5, he would fab. a nice looking mount on the exterior where we could put it when we need it. Where are you planning on putting yours? I thought about in our bathroom closet on the toilet wall, but not sure if there will be enough room. May just go with the portable one and paint it to match the Shasta! haha....(gotta glamp that ugly thing up if it is going to hang part time on the outside of my beauty!)

Full hookups are always preferable, but sometimes I like to go last minute and may not be lucky to get a full hookup spot. Plus living on the California coast there are tons of great camping spots and parks along Highway 1 and a lot don't have hookups )-: So, how does a 6-4 sleep in your trailer? Just curious, my husband is 6-2 so we are curious.

Its not as wide as our king size bed at home but that just give us an excuse to cuddle. You could hang the L-5 outside on the same side as your hookups and don't need to paint it. You could even make a 6' pole and use a patio umbrella base to stand it in. then just set your plumbing up to supply it and get the hot water back inside. Remeber you don't want to put a stake/pole into the ground to hold it because somewhere under there is the power supplying your site.

Im not a huge fan of showering outside, but its better than no shower at all when boondocking. Your rear couch bed sounds great! Yes, we have a queen right now a full wont be too terribly bad. We are taking out the rear bookshelf possibly to extend the bed's width to the bathroom. It will be fine I am sure. I like the pole/umbrella base to hang it. Wouldn't be a pretty site to start digging by the power....lol...
