Looking good! You can hire out your talents for the next one...
Once you are satisfied with your joint, a thin layer of gutter seal will prevent the putty from gapping with age. I've had good luck with it and it is super clear or paintable.

Thanks Vikx -
When I sell the HH in the hopefully far distant future I figure I'll get a cool 5 cents an hour for my labor if I'm lucky. I do believe I'll stay away from making this a career - but it's a great way to stay out of trouble in retirement. I love camping and the design from this period of history so working on these is a labor of love with lots of naughty words thrown in to keep things spicy (like when I broke the screw off in the window frame).
I'll give the thin layer of gutter seal a try :-)

Hey Allen,
A person can sometimes raise a corner of the trailer with a floor jack and it can tweak the wood framing minutely sometimes to make things fit. Do you think this could have helped you bring together the brow and the window frame?

Do you think this could have helped you bring together the brow and the window frame? Rod YES.... WHAT HE SAID... Try one corner and if it gets worse go to the opposite corner... Keep doing that until you find the right tweek. Remember that these trailers are built to be flexible. So depending on the ground you are sitting on and whether it's the same as it has been for the entire duration of the build, you may have to do a little tweeking to get things to fit right.

Thanks - I totally understand what you're saying but in this instance it would not have helped. The only place where the gap is too large is in the top center where the frame meets the roof.

Is the gap solved?

Yes - all is well... there's a 1ish foot long section in the middle where the aluminum frame meets the underside of the fiberglass brow where the putty is maybe 1/4 inch thick and then tapers to 1/8 going both ways. That spot is below an area with a six inch overhang protecting it. Based on how tricky this front end was I'll gladly accept that outcome compared to some of the scary images I had in my head of what could go wrong :-)

Lots of progress there, Bud. Just an idea - If it's just the stove top, can you get it reporcelained by a restorative appliance shop? It's small enough to mail. There's a good one near me in So Cal, LOL. I believe there is one up in Roseburg Oregon. I know they work on fridges, not sure about stoves, though.

Thanks Rod - I figure since it was painted originally I'll give that a try first but I have thought of taking the porcelain route if the paint does not go as planned

Well you know what I say to my kids. "The thing about nice stuff(the gas detector), is that it's nice." I have found a few extra bucks for something we say is nice, is worth it in the long run. Ohhh, and BTW, the windows look really NICE. Trying to be original. Geeze, I wonder if there is just a gremlin running around in this trailer. You get handed what seems to be more struggles than the average build. Yah, but you get an A for determination, persistence and resourcefulness. Cheers, Rod
