desertman, well pulling a 50 year old Shasta surely is not freeway speeds! I think Route 66 is a "yes" route!

Many thanks to each of you. I have heard that the rains are unbelievable to be in. The dust storms have also made the news lately. Travelaine I will look into the roadtripper site. Gonekayaking, are you in Oakland? Have you ever camped the redwoods or Humbolt area? We would love to see sequoia and redwood forests.

I guess I really don't know where to post this thread so please move it or let me know. My wife and I are on the final "bits" of a pretty major rebuild of our 64 1500. All skin was removed, most framing was replaced, all but one piece of 1/8 plywood was replaced, 3/4 inch foam filled every wall cavity. Then all lighting was replaced with 12 volt LEDs and all 110 outlets and wiring was replaced with #12. New running lights and wires along with brake rebuild. New tile floor was placed on new plywood and new counter tops along with new cushions, upholstery and curtains. Turquoise and white paint and a polished strip now awaits the replacement of the windows and trim.
So, here is my question! We are ready to head out this fall. We have a son and daughter in law in New Orleans and a son and daughter in law in Oakland. We figure NO first then through the south along the coast to Oakland and home through the south to avoid the mountain snows. Has anyone traveled along this route and could you advise on some great places to camp and sights to see. Just retired and not really looking at time constraints. I would love to hear from anyone with personal experiences.

I have to tell you that Hemet Valley was outstanding to work with. I ordered a new roof skin for a 64 1500. It came as a four piece with Pittsburgh lock seams on each end. and the top seams were perfect. Unfortunately the cost of shipping to Illinois was more than the product. and then I did the major error and ordered my inside dimension instead of the outside and have a piece to work with 2 1/2 inches too narrow. Live and learn. Not their fault. The product was outstanding quality and service cannot be beat. Looking for roof skin 78" wide, Let me know.
