Taking off my ceiling panels finally. Can anyone tell me why this one piece of roof framing has a piece of metal on it? Do I need to replace it on the new wood? IMG_3033 by kathy, on Flickr THanks

Probably just to give it more strength and keep the roof from sagging. If the wood is good I would keep it.

Many Shastas have the metal support. You can marry sticks on either side to overlap the wall. (glue and screw) Keep what you can.
