I have 1972 Shasta 1400 that I need to remove the furnace to remove the street side skin. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to remove the furnace vent and exhaust section that holds the skin in place. I’m afraid to force anything so I’m just looking for some advice on how to remove this unit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You were one step from posting. This heater vent is new to me but I'm sure somebody here has seen it before.

Different from mine but I had a hard time too on that item. Looks like the flange is stuck to the skins with hopefully only putty tape but maybe something nastier. You'll have to gently cut and pry it loose. Also, likely there might be a male / female type connection between the vents, with the exterior one stuck into the vent from the furnace and they are maybe rusted together. Or have you taken the furnace out of the interior yet? If there is a joint like that maybe you can worry some WD or something in the joint and give it some time. Welcome and good luck with the project.

Heat and gently hit the parts with a soft hammer. Try oil, WD or PD Blaster penetrating catalyst. Wiggle a lot. If nothing works, tie a come-along to the inner pipes and ratchet. A very sturdy post helps.

Now how did you get that to post? Thanks for finishing what I started. When the photo is up in Fickr you will see an arrow that swings to the right (lower left from photo), click that and up will come a code. Make sure it's the BBcode. Copy and paste it to your thread.

Shasta furnace exhaust. by Chuck ZPaste the code right into the body of the message. I tried last night to do this but was using the buttons on the post, and it don't work that way. I still have a lot of photobomber habits to break.... Just watch the tail end, because it will print out your full name into the post. Don't know how worried you are about privacy....like we still have any anyway...

Hey Friends,
I don't like my registered Flickr name visible, so when I post pix in a thread, I click create and then view the post. Next I click on edit and delete that info right after posting.
Chuck, we're you able to see Ten's pix? If not, there are directions on how to do it in the sticky Photobucket thread at the top of the fora list.
Cheers,
Rod

Yep the connecting tubes freeze together over time. Heat it up, tap on it a bunch, wiggle and twist it, bang on it some more. It will come out. I had to remove the cabinet to get mine out but I got it out, cleaned it inside and out and put it back together and it worked great.

Is there a way to get to the connecting tubes to lub them without having to remove the surrounding cabinetry? Looking at it from both directions I don't see the joint.

You can remove the wording from the underneath or along side the photo after it is copied into the thread before you officially "post" it. Thus eliminating the need to edit it later. Is that what you meant Rod? Hi bw, It's my personal preference to eliminate the flickr reference after the post is created. Adds an extra step, but I do better with a completed post in front of me.
