What's a good kind of door hold open? A friend gave me one of the plunger type and it looks like if it’s far enough from the hinge sides for the ange to work the door knob smacks the side first. Plus, I don’t like the idea of having to slam the door open to make it catch. There are dents from po’s using this method. I looked on vts and didn’t see one that I was sure would work. Seems there must be some kind of gentle catch that holds? Thanks.

I'm not sure this is what you're asking about. This is what we have, works well...VTS. link

There are several styles. I try to go with what the trailer had originally. Sometimes, you can open the door and see what will interfere. That will tell you the offset needed.
For instance, if you have a jalousie window behind the door, the stop needs to be longer than if the window is non opening.

I used the same one turbodaddy suggested. As vikx said, with jalouise windows I needed the space. But even with this I can't open the window all the way.

I prefer the other one that everyone here has mentioned. Available at VTS.
