Like I say. You must be really careful these days and make sure you can go inspect a trailer before buying it. Take an ice pick with you to shove into the underside in corners and inside under a cabinet in the corners to locate rot. Just by looking underneath you can usually tell if the skirt boards have been replaced. If not, give the wood a poke with the ice pick. Ask for build photos. And finally, check the VIN against the title. You may want to run a VIN check with your local DMV or a DMV in the state where the trailer is registered in.

Hi Friends,
I am really curious. I will email seller and ask for pix during the restoration.
I will post back with any response.

Sometimes, you can just reach underneath without the pick and little crunchies fall into your hand...

Scotty left a trail of crunchies, like Hansel and Gretel, all the way home. Lessened the amount of detritus by several kilos I'm guessin'.

Hi Friends,
Reporting in with a little info. I did get an email from the seller. It was full of typos, but he apologized. At any rate, his story is that he bought it from a guy who had already gutted the bed, dinettes and the kitchen sink cabinet. The seller says he kept the rest of the cabinets and replaced all the wood that was rotten. He also said he was a general contractor for 45 years. I was to assume that was to support his knowledge and skills to restore the trailer, I guess. He also said he would send me pix if I wanted, but preferred a phone call. The seller says he installed new gas and water lines, electrical, and storage tanks.
I emailed him back with another request for pix of the lower wall, especially below the front side windows. I wanted to also know if the skins had ever been pulled or lifted and if he had photos of it.
Clearly, there isn't enough information yet to validate the degree of rot we all suspect.
I tried to cloak myself as someone who knew very little so my terms were made simple, thinking that might elicit more information than if I came in with knowledge and experience as my buddies.
I will let you know if I get the pix and share them.
Cheers,
Rod

Well we all know how much good it does to have a lot of knowledge in the house remodeling area don't we... I imagine he did it just like a house. From the inside. The thing will be a rolling accident looking for a place to explode.

Hi friends,
Here is the sellers latest response.
Yes I made repairs to front and back of metals up repaired three corners they weren't that bad but I couldn't leave them also made repairs to wheel wells there is no rot left in these areas I am sorry that you're not interested if there's no pictures through the years I've got a lot of these trailers have not documented with pictures never been asked maybe from now on I will you have a great day good luck looking.
I am not going to waste his time any more.
Like Vikx and Larry have posted many times. No pix no deal. My last bit of curiosity will be how far will the price drop before it sells?
Cheers,
Rod

There are just some things that are impossible to replace from the inside. Like rotten curbing. Can't be done. And if you don't remove the metal you can not span the panels and framing over the walls.... So if the work was done from the inside, it was done wrong.
