I introduced myself and my trailer a couple weeks ago. Been dying to get started. So yesterday I did the first real work. "Bess" got new tires so she could be moved from where the tow truck dumped her.
Then I moved her, tenuously (because the hitch is frozen), to under a new carport. Time for reno! Removed windows and door. My 13 yr son wants to help with the restoration and I think it will be a great mom and son project this summer.
Took off one side panel that was already half off, then tackled the front end. You can see from the pictures that there is nothing left of the lower framing, it disintegrated. She is in bad shape. The sides are no longer attached to the floor/frame. and all that is holding her up is the skin and the closet
Observations- I'm probably gonna need a tetanus shot before this is over and my forearms are going to look like Popeyes.

I think a little spilled blood belongs with our labor of love, so keep the band aids close to the humor in this madness we all share. A tetanus shot's probably a good idea, as you don't know where that rot has been.

Congrats, you are off to a good start. I like to see a tidy work space. By the looks of things you'll be replacing the floor thus taking it all the way down to the bare frame. I have been able to free up rusted couplers by soaking them overnight in a penetrating oil and gently tapping on the moving parts. Get that cover secured so the wind doesn't take it away. Unless you are Wonderwoman, this will be a lot more than just a summer project for you two.

Yes- I have to take it all the way down to the chassis and while I'm there have those components inspected/sandblasted/recoated etc. and have the hitch replaced.

I'll bet that when your son has to do that "what I did this summer essay" there won't be another kid in his school who will be able to say, "I helped my mom restore a travel trailer that's nearly twice as old as he is!" Congrats, and enjoy the journey before your journeys.

What's the width of the trailer body? Looks like a 7 footer.
